Introduction
theHunter Classic is neither totally realistic, nor totally an arcade shooter. It is probably somewhere in between, in order to cater to all play styles. There are players however that want to experience the game as realistic as possible. This article aims to give ideas how you can turn off or reduce the "unrealistic" aids, or change your behavior, in order to make your hunts a good challenge. Get ready for a really difficult experience!
Huntermate
The HunterMate includes many functions that aim to simulate the hunter's senses, such as tracking or listening. It is however very powerful beyond what a real person could experience, be they even such experienced.
- permanent minimap
- very accurate information when tracking, especially on higher Tracking Skills
- very accurate display of an animal's calling location
- keeps track in form of Xs on the minimap
Recommendations
- Holster the huntermate (default: H) at the start of the hunt. Walk empty handed or with any other devices.
- Only use it for harvesting animals.
Movement
There is no tiring or exhaustion in the game, and all stances can be used indefinitely without any limits. Most stance are not realistic though for permanent use.
Recommendations
- Do not run, crouch walk or crawl. Only walk.
- Use the crouching and prone positions only for shooting.
Track Color
Animal tracks have an arc in the color that is set in the game settings. This lets you spot tracks from a distance.
Recommendations
- In the game options, turn off the Track Color.
Spotting Information
When looking at an animal, a lot of information in shown in the upper right corner. This can include pretty accurate estimations, according to your Spotting Skill.
Recommendations
- In the game options, turn off "Show Animal Spotting Information".
Map
The digital full screen map has many features that you might not likely have in a real life hunt:
- Location of me and other hunters
- Dynamic display of all Deployable Items
- Dynamic marking of up to three spots, including spots set with the binoculars and spotting scopes
- Walked trail
- Coordinates and distances
Recommendations
- Consider a very limited usage of the map.
- Do not use the location markers.
- Do not use the drawing feature.
- Turn off the Path.
Fast Traveling
Fast Traveling is immediate and does not advance the time that would pass for traveling the distance. It is therefore very unrealistic.
Recommendations
- Do not fast travel.
Other Aids
Consider turning off these features in the game options:
- Show Player Spotting Information
- Status Bar
- Contextual Help
- Flock Sounds (turn on to disable them)
Consider not using these features and equipment
- First aid kits - rather end the game when hurt
