The aim of this map is to show how lethal a single shot is when hitting certain regions of the animal.

Animal Lethality Map

Color Organs / Bones Lethality
Brain
Upper spine
Heart
  • If any of these organs/bones are hit, the animal dies instantly.
Lower spine
  • The animal is paralyzed and will die after some time.
  • In combination with other organs, the time to die is decreased.
Lungs
  • If one lung is hit, the animal dies after a short time.
  • If both lungs are hit,
    • most animals die instantly.
    • large animals such as bison or moose can live for a few more seconds before dying.
Liver
  • If only the liver is hit, the animal will die after a short time.
  • If hit in combination with other organs, the time to die is decreased.
Stomach
Intestines
  • If only one of these organs is hit, the animal will die after a long time.
  • If hit in combination with other organs, the time to die is increased.
    • For example, after only a lung is hit, the time to die is shorter compared to when a lung and the stomach is hit.

Notes

  • Of course any additional shot will drastically decrease the time for the animal to cease.
  • Animals hit by any permitted arrow or bolt will always die, even if the animals was barely hit (in the extreme case only the tip of an ear). It can however take a very long time until the animal dies.
  • Body shots will lead to death if health goes below 50% by general experience.
    • A lot of factors determine how lethal a body shot was, such as distance, ammo, etc.
    • Animals may die even if the blood tracks never showed a health below 50%.
  • The following factors have no influence on lethality as long as the described organs are hit
    • shot distance
    • shot angle
    • weapon / ammo used
  • Different species might have longer or shorter times for an animal to die, but the general rules apply to all species.
  • See also Wound Time for more information.
